Discussion:
STALKER -- mouse cursor speed in menus

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but I've just finally installed STALKER
and the new 1.0004 patch, and fired it up.

In-game everything seems fine, but the mouse cursor speed when in the menus,
inventory screens, etc. is painfully slow. Getting from one side of the
screen to the other takes much longer than it should.

Is there a way to speed up the cursor? I've searched all over the net and
tried looking in the config files for anything that might do it too, but to
no avail.

Thanks in advance,

I hated this too but unfortunately my only solution was to adjust the
sensitivity on the fly as required using the buttons on the MX518...

I have not tried the 1.0004 patch but with earlier versions
I had that problem when trying to use graphics setting of
Full Dynamic Lighting on a PC that ran very low frame rates
with it on. Try Static Dynamic Lighting. You might have to
exit to Windows and restart the program for it to work.

Glad to see I'm not the only one thats months behind in games. I
actually was just very much in need of something new to play, but I'm
in upgrade limbo right now. I've been playing for an hour here and
there the last couple of nights.

Picked it up yesterday and stupidly didn't immediately look for patches,
so everything I did is now wiped - oh well, I'd only just gotten into
Garbage anyway.

It sure is a damn pretty game, even with the textures at minimum.
Haven't been this impressed with a game since the first time I looked up
at the sky at night in Morrowind.

Before you get burned again, make sure you're not radioactive when you
cross between levels. There is a bug that causes the radioactivity to
be incurable if you do. I had to start over because of that.
I'm not very far in, and I've also had another known issue of the side
mission which can't be completed. It tells me to do something, but
when I go to the way point the target isn't there.

Its a very immersive game, but not without some issues.

I tend to be cautious about stuff like that anyway and don't mind
waiting for rads to fade/health to regen.
I also save right before changing zones - old habit since some older
games that were otherwise stable could crash at level change.

That it is.

Didn't get the stalker suit from the secret spot in the newbie village,
it was only a merc suit. Could have restarted, but just went with it.
Haven't been to Garbage yet with this one, but did wipe out the Military
outpost in the south (hey they shot at me first.)

Strangely enough, the silenced pistol seems to be decent - very minimal
recoil and I've shot quite a few bandits at long range with it - helps
save the rifle ammo.

Hopefully there will be a better one later on, as well as a good sniper
rifle, then I'll have my 2 favorite weapons.

Nighttime in the rain seems to be designed to cause me eyestrain and
headaches though.

Gee, I bought FEAR + Expansion Pack a month ago. And I do not feel
retard in any way.

I am playing it now. My plan is to finish it first, and then play
BioShock (which I bought at the pre-order discount).

Funnily enough, I bought the expansion pack for that a couple of weeks back.
:)

I only mentioned being behind the times as everyone here seems to have moved
on to Bioshock now. I would have joined them, but after downloading the demo
I realised that my cutting-edge-not-all-that-long-ago-surely Radeon X800XL
graphics card can't play it, so STALKER it is while I work out whether to
get a Radeon X1950 or a GeForce 8800 to replace it...

I'm playing on a Core 2 Duo X6800, 2GB Corsair Dominator, 2x X1950XT
Crossfire, Xi-Fi at 1280 x 960 and it's smooth as silk. Renamed the .exe to
FEAR.

Wait, why?
I was presuming that ATI had not optimised the drivers for a game that had not
been released. Renaming the .exe is an oldish trick to get the game to use an
existing profile.
